StratoQuest's goal is to assist space pioneers with the design and development of new types of space suits and escape systems that will protect suborbital space travelers by allowing them to survive an emergency evacuation from their space craft. Cheryl Sterns, World and U.S. Parachuting Champion, has a goal to complete a jump from at least 110,000 ft.
In August 2007, Michel Fournier will drop out of the stratosphere from an altitude from about 130,000 feet (40 kilometers, nearly 25 miles) above the plains of Saskatchewan, Canada, and will contribute to the development of future technologies and the safety of stratospheric flight.
